 Island of the Dolls (Isla de las Munecas) गुड़िया का द्वीप (इस्ला डे लास मुनेकास) Location: The Island of the Dolls is located in the canals of Xochimilco a network of lakes and canals just south of Mexico City, Mexico. History: The island's history is interwined with the story of Don Julian Santana Barrera, the caretaker of the Island. According to the local legend, Barrera discovered the body of a drowned girl in the canals near the island. To honor of the spirit, he began collecting dolls and hanging them from the trees. Barrera believed that the dolls would appease the spirit of the girl and product the island from evil. Dolls collection:  Over the years, Barrera accumalated a vast collection of dolls, ranging from old,  disheveled toys to severed doll parts. The dolls were often found in trash heaps or donated by locals. Some are missing limbs, eyes or heads, contribting to the eerie atmosphere of the island.
