Different Types of Vulva (Vagina) 1. Closed or “Curtained” Vulva This type has the outer labia (labia majora) that are fuller and meet in the middle, gently covering the inner lips. It gives a smooth, neat, closed appearance. The inner labia are not visible when standing. This type is common among all women and varies with age, hormones, and body shape. 2. Prominent Inner Labia (Labiaplasty Type II) Here, the inner labia (labia minora) extend beyond the outer lips. They may appear long, wavy, ruffled, or petal-like. This type is extremely common and completely natural, despite social taboos. It may look more detailed or textured, but is entirely healthy. 3. Asymmetrical Vulva One side of the inner or outer labia may be larger, longer, darker, or shaped differently than the other. This is normal—just like breasts, hands, or eyes often differ slightly. Asymmetry does not affect function, sensation, or health. 4. Outie Vulva In this type, the inner labia and/or clitoral hood are more...

Here, the inner labia (labia minora) extend beyond the outer lips.

3. Asymmetrical Vulva
One side of the inner or outer labia may be larger, longer, darker, or shaped differently than the other.
This is normal—just like breasts, hands, or eyes often differ slightly.
Asymmetry does not affect function, sensation, or health.

This is normal—just like breasts, hands, or eyes often differ slightly.
Asymmetry does not affect function, sensation, or health.
4. Outie Vulva
In this type, the inner labia and/or clitoral hood are more visible outwardly.
It has a more open, fuller appearance.
Often seen in people with thicker labial tissue, or those who are very active (sports, cycling).
Healthy and normal.
5. Innie Vulva
Here, the outer labia are prominent, and the inner labia are tucked inside.
It looks smooth, closed, minimal from the outside.
It is often shown in textbooks or media, even though it is not the only normal type.
6. Puffier Labia Majora
The outer lips are soft, round, cushion-like, especially in younger women or those with higher estrogen levels.
This gives a voluptuous, padded look.
It changes naturally with age, hormones, weight, and childbirth.
7. Thin or Flatter Labia Majora
Some vulvas have slimmer outer lips, giving a more defined look.
This may reveal more of the inner labia or clitoral hood.
Natural in athletes, leaner women, or post-menopause.
8. Prominent Clitoral Hood
The clitoral hood may be larger, longer, or more folded, giving extra coverage around the clitoris.
This is a natural variation and does not affect sexual pleasure; in some cases, it increases sensitivity.
9. Minimal Clitoral Hood
Here, the clitoral glans appears more exposed, giving a “button-like” appearance.
Normal as long as there is no discomfort or dryness.
10. Darker Pigmented Vulva
Some people naturally have brown, pink-brown, or dark-toned labia due to genetics, hormones, or friction.
This is extremely common in Indian women.
Color differences do NOT indicate health problems.
